• IAQ Standards/Guidelines: Comments and Recommendations for Microenvironments
  • 2012-02-28
Many standards for IAQ (indoor air quality) and IEQ (indoor environmental quality) have been established worldwide, however, few were created specifically for the improvement of indoor microenvironments. People can often occupy unhealthy indoor microenvironments within buildings designed and specified to comply with the best-practice IAQ/IEQ standards/guidelines. This can be due to a number of factors, however, the main reasons is normally that they are surrounded by sources of pollutants such as photocopiers, printers, computers and synthetic furniture within their personal microenvironment. Their own activities and behaviours also play significant roles. Thus, the concept of the “work microenvironment”, where people spend most of their time during the day, and the “sleep microenvironment” where they spend a large period of time whilst at home, are proposed to be included in IAQ/IEQ standards and guidelines.
