(Sanyo Electric AC) is going to totally shift room air conditioner (RAC) production to China by March 2004, aimed to enhance its cost competitiveness in the global market. Domestic production (Gunma Pref.) will be limited to middle-/large-size air conditioning equipment such as packaged ACs (PACs), GHPs and absorption chillers, and also new products such as "Eco Cute" and "Eco Ice Mini". Since its establishment as a general AC company two years ago, Sanyo Electric AC has been undertaking design, development, manufacture, sales and maintenance of small, commercial and large AC equipment. In the meantime, since the global competition has intensified in the field of RACs, domestic RAC market has been facing a severe situation due to the continuing unit price decreases. Reorganization of Subsidiaries In these circumstances, the company makes it one of important strategies to increase the share of overseas production. Of its affiliated companies in China, Sanyo Electric AC made Shenyang Sanyo AC Co., Ltd. into a subsidiary under its direct control from October. Thus, two subsidiaries, Guangdong Sanyo (fully invested subsidiary) and Shenyang Sanyo are placed under the direct control. Guangdong Sanyo was changed into a fully invested subsidiary in October last year. This reorganization of subsidiaries has "made our operations in China easier than before" (Mr. Y.
